One of the oldest communities in Valsesia and, as the historian and mountaineer L. Ravelli wrote, certainly the most picturesque village in the entire valley. Situated in the Val Grande, Campertogno is characterized by a contrasting and suggestive landscape: the imposing slope of the Colma to the west and the sinuosity of the Artogna Valley to the east. The scenery is softened by the secular memory of a huge glacier that smoothed the rocks and gave life to waterfalls, gorges and bucolic lakes. The variety of nature offers wonderful trekking routes and gives the thrill of rafting and canyoning to the bravest. In addition to landscape’s beauty, this small town holds great historical and artistic treasures, mainly dedicated to sacred art. Examples of these are the baroque parish church of San Giacomo Maggiore, the oratory of Santa Marta and other religious places nearby, that are still processions’ and pilgrimages’ destinations. The alpine village of Campertogno, refined by nineteenth-century villas, is the ideal place where to spend your holidays and experience the warmth of local folklore, surrounded by a unique and wild nature.
