\"La Nigoeuja la va in su e la legg la fèm nu!\” (The Nigoglia river goes upwards, so we lay down the law). There is no better opening sentence to describe Omegna, located on the northern tip of Lake Orta and part of the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. Yes, because this is the ultimate example of the subversion of clichés. Isn't it true that rivers flow in north-to-south direction? Isn't it true that to small villages correspond a limited economy? Maybe so, but certainly not here. Indeed, the Nigoglia stream extraordinarily outflows from the town towards the Alps. In the center, an evocative promenade follow its way, facing ancient buildings and the Church of Sant'Ambrogio. On the industrial note, at the end of ‘900 the area became the most important \"household goods district\", thanks to well-known companies such as Alessi and Bialetti. Another pride of Omegna is to have been the birthplace of Gianni Rodari, a famous children's writer and pedagogue to whom the central Parco della Fantasia is dedicated. What makes this town even more special is the privilege of having free beaches, beautiful bathing establishments, mountain pastures on Mount Mottarone and a spectacular view of Lake Orta, illuminated by the San Vito fireworks in summer.
